As my senior show I decided to do a rebrand of the Peace River Wildlife Center located in Punta Gorda, FL. To start I did research on the center and discovered their core mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing native Florida wildlife back to the wild. I then started with the design of their logo and decided to use the pelican because it reminded me most of the area and is a bird you’ll see a lot of in the center. I chose the green, yellow, and white because of their warm and friendly feeling that I felt matched perfectly with the center. Once I had these things established I tried to carry them through to all the other pieces. In total the project included business cards, a letterhead and envelope, a website, informational posters, stickers, magnets, and two brochures. This project will always hold a special place in my heart since I was fortunate enough to be able to go down to the center and take a large chunk of the photos used in the pieces myself as well as getting to see close up how much good the center does.
When my mom and step-dad got married 3 years ago they asked me to put together an invitation to the event due to my background in design. They had come up with a favorite picture they wanted me to incorporate which became what I designed around with the other focus being on making sure the information was clear and readable. The colors I chose came from the picture itself which helped everything blend together. I also created an invitation they could text to friends and family as well as a sign for the reception to memorialize the people we had lost who were unable to join in the celebration using the invitation as a template for my other signage.
For this project I worked with a local company called Ilume media. Ilume focuses on writing for businesses, including blogs, articles, and script writing. I created some concepts for a new logo that took the ideas of their brand and some design cues from their old logo to create some new looks.
For this project I was tasked with creating circular packaging. To achieve this goal I came up with the brand Hero One. Hero One takes DC comic's heroes and puts them on a can that would include things like stickers, pens, pencils, a mouse pad, and tee shirt all focused specifically around them. To grab people's attention I used bright colors in my logo as well as in the cutouts of each character. This set of cans in particular focuses on the characters associated with Batman. The characters included in this set are Batgirl, Nightwing, and Batman himself.
During this website design I found inspiration in the colors and images associated with the dessert confection gelato. I took those ideas to create a site that was eye catching and engaging to its visitors much like the gelato shops I visited while in London. I based my use of color around their logo to help create a sense of fun and cohesion.
This mailer is for Heritage Hill, a neighborhood in Grand Rapids, MI. To get an idea about what the neighborhood was like I went and walked around in it and discovered it had a very historical feeling to it. Using this information I then came up with my color palette. The red and blue were both colors seen on many houses from the neighborhood and are accompanied by text describing the location's history and some fun things to do there.
This was a brochure that I created for a law firm that sponsors an event called Soundsmith. The brochure described an upcoming concert and included information on the people that were playing at the event. I placed everything in the brochure and handled both image and text to make sure the brochure was clean and readable.
For this project I had to design a holding page for the company Jakafriak. The small paragraph below the photos explains the company and talks about the projects they've done. The major focus of the page was the photos themselves, which showcased their buildings. This was done to show what the company could do for their customers.
For this project I worked with my fellow classmates Nicolette Looks, Nate Allen, Hannah Colmer, and Liz LaValle to create a series of materials for our university's library. The goal of the material was to help students understand a series of terms used often in the library and other writing classes. I was responsible for creating an icon for the word journal, a reference card to hand out, and a game to be played at the library. The reference card is simple and clear placing the icons next to their word and definition on the back to link them together. The game continues this simplicity with the cards only including the word, symbol, or definition for them to match together.
For this project I designed a wayfinding system for Tunnel Park in Holland, Mi. To do this I went to the park and walked around taking note of what signs I could find along with taking some photos of the area. This helped me come up with the blue and green color scheme as well as see what signs were needed. I decided to create a large sign with a map, a directional sign to lead you to where you want to go, and a sign for your destination. Each of these signs used simple illustrations with a combination of a lighter blue with darker green to draw your attention and guide you on your way.
